Ailerons

Postby Joeyjoejoejr » Mon May 12, 2014 8:23 pm

I'm new here and am building my first Guillows kit, 406 FW-190. Even though I have 4 other Guillows kit in garage and and ordered 9 more kits from A2Z. I have built a lot of balsa planes mostly simple endurance flyers. The only scale kit I've built is the Dumas Hurricane which I converted to RC.Which brings me to my question. What s the best way to control ailerons. On my Hurricane I used a cable and a single servo to control the ailerons and had a bit of resistance and the plane was slow to turn. On my FW-190 I'm installing a servo into each wing. Is there a better way?

i have been there where u are. The way you can link up ailerons is numerous, and depends on the situation. On a 400 fw190, you got plenty of room in the wings for an individual e-flite 3.5g servo in each wing, You will need adapters and a "Y" cable. I assume you own a decent transmitter. If not you can get a Spektrum DX6 for like 180 bucks, and it comes with a nice transmitter. I used this on my Edge, and its fine. But on my Pt-17 still under construction I used a 1/2a linkage setup, because the plane is a Bipe, and the wings are better suited for it. A 400 series is a bit small for 1/2A stuff. If you decide on a single servo setup for the 190, use Sullivan cables.. There bell cranks and stuff are just too big for these planes.Look at the RC conversion threads in the forum. and thats how I found out about different aileron hookups.

You might want to look over at RC Groups. They have a bunch of conversion threads there, and the index is here:

Good Luck with the conversion.

heres the 1/2 A setup. Now on this Fw190. I remember he said vthe sheeting of the entire fuselage added so much wght, he wasnt sure if it would fly. But the wings are nicely done.
