this is my 2nd plane I am working on it is a hellcat. I am at the dope stage next will be the tissue paper

Looking good. After seeing your plastic F2A Buffalo model I'm sure you'll have no trouble with this one .

Nice thing about the Hellcat is you can do several different US Navy color schemes using only gift wrap tissue from Walmart, Dollar General etc. That should help reduce the model weight if you plan to fly it.

Not bad. I see you have yet to experience a laser cut kit. Try a 400 series plane,and You will be even more impressed with these models. What kind of glue are u using, and do you intend to fly it? If you dont. there are techniques for display models that will make it look very scale authentic.

I am glad to see you are building again. I just got home for a day and will enjoy seeing you finished plane. I am taking a break from building at the moment but I will be checking the forum and like to see new comers!

My first plane had scoliosis so bad it's just display the hellcat I am workin on I would like to see it fly I am trying to keep it light and straight
I have elmers carpenter glue.

I am happy to read you plan to fly. I have not flown the 500 series but people do.

You may consider a few things:
1. Use different rubber. I have flown the 400 series with the kit grey rubber, but that little blue rubber band you get with the 500 series is questionable.
2. You can cover the model with tissue from a craft store in blue. I get my tissue from Easybuilt.com. If you paint. I would spray on and very light coat.
3. It will help if you make your nose block adjustable.

There's no rule that says you have to cover your fuse. with only 3 pieces. Cover a smaller section instead and work on a different part of the model while you let the fuselage tissue dry. Covering flat surfaces is easy, when they get curvy you can use the tissue covering drawing that came with the model as a guide.

You're off to a good start on this one, too .

My new models are supposed to arrive today. Can't wait to see them. My spitfire is a laser cut model. FUN!!!

Well, I got the tissue on the hellcat and I spritz it with water. Still got some wrinkles maybe if I spritz it again it will get it wrinkle free this time. Cross your fingers

You are really going to like the laser cut models.

By the way, tissue has a grain. Checkout the Cessna 180 build thread here or do a forum search. Aligning the grain with the structure can make a small difference in finished results.

You are excited about getting a balsa B-25 model !! Do you have a sister that's single?

I see you have the same problem as I. I just got a beautiful new camera, but the pics are too big! So I am downloading to image shack, and then pasteing. But anyway, Mitch is good at flying these things, and like he said, you dont have to cover the while thing in one piece. Espescially on the fuselage I will use the several section method. Maybe not as many as on the plan, but on contoured surfaces you have to. And yes, the 500 series I think make the best display models, but I have had little luck flying them. they're just too heavy with all the formers and stringers. Try a 900 series for flying. Good luck on the B-25. I have been wanting to do a twin motor plane as well.
