IMO the ME-109 is arguably the best fighter of ww 2. Considering how early it was introduced, and how even at the end of the war it was still very close to matching even the performance of the P-51.Yes, the FW-190 is probably better , but as far as adaptability, and service the 109 is my favorite. I have seen videos of them that remain flying, and the sound of its engine (speaking as a mechanic for 30 years) is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. The merlin they say is was the best, but I like the Me engine. The inverted positioning, and the 30mm cannon firing through the center hub are just incredible innovations. The most versatile, and adapted airplane of the war ! Someday I want to build a super detailed scale of one. I'm puttin that on my Bucket List.
