Nice subject Bill. I almost bought the Sterling Jenny a number of times. I wish Comet didn't have that "x" off-scale wing former construction for some of their kits, but what the heck, I have two of those kits sitting. I probably just cut new formers. It's not as if you never cut a few parts by hand either! :D
Edit 7/10:
Just started on the Comet Cherokee. Makes the tougher Guillows kits look like a breeze. I wouldn't wish this construction method on anyone. :shock: I've done the "build in mid air" a number of times, but I never paid for it before.

Is that a blast tube, or construction jig?. I see mini servos there. Are you going RC conversion?

Sorry Bill, It was the photo posted by someone on youre thread, About the Comet built in mid air techniques. I took a small copy of that Sikorsky Heli, and went ti staples, and blew it up. Thanks for showing that trick. I also did it with a wellsley bomber plan I inted to build someday.

There's a line of comet kits that all have that tube. The rubber band goes inside of it. Fun to build as you have to construct the fuse "freehand" around the tube... (and by "Fun" I mean never again...) The wings have crisscrossed "x" formers as well...

I never tried the "tube" method, but, honestly, as tedious as it may be, it looks to be a very rigid, and strong design. The criss cross members too are unusual. It looks heavy. I'm obsessed with weight lately.

It sure it strong. As for the X-wing, I scrapped it on the Comet kit I'm building now, and built a conventional wing. The X-formers were simply resized into the standard formers, using the end cap formers as templates. The Comet die-cut accuracy made the most inaccurate Guillows die-cut kits look like laser cut.
