Finished the 502 FW-190

I just finished my FW-190 today, what do y'all think? I used kit wood and thinned the wing LE & TE, rudder, stabilizer and fuselage pieces for weight savings. The landing gears are removable for flight, the cowling is removable and has a built-in nose block, the prop is for display so the plane will be flown with a Guillows 6" prop and super sport rubber. The cowling is yellow tissue, the camo and canopy lines are tissue also. I finished it with nitrate dope and did a final light coat of Krylon to seal and help the decals blend in. This was a fun kit to build and I look forward to building more of the 500 series.

Seriously, looks to me like you've done everything right...which is to say, most of your building methods are very much like what I use. On top of that, your level of craftsmanship surpasses mine.

Kudos to you, bluecolt. I salute you on making such a gorgeous model and raising the bar of quality for many of us.

I've built about 8 or 9 models before this, but a lot of them were 15+ years ago. After a long hiatus I re-entered this hobby last year and I'm enjoying it even more now in my 30s than I did as a kid. I took my son to the park Saturday and flew a 900 series Mustang and felt like a giddy kid again watching it loop around over our heads; another father at the park was even asking about it and was surprised to find it was balsa and tissue, he just assumed it was a Styrofoam toy I bought. I hope this FW-190 performs alright, I'll post an update when I get time to fly.

Looks nice. I wish I had added the camo like you did, on the brown Africa Corps scheme. Was the yellow nose from an actual AC FW190? I researched White 17 and discovered that it was an actual AC plane, flown by famed pilot Heinz Orlowski.

It's a stylized version of an FW 190 photo I came across that had yellow accents on the underside of the cowling and on the tail. I attempted to put yellow accents on the rudder but no matter how much I chalked, the brown showed through and I didn't want to start over and recover the tail with separate pieces. I enjoyed this 500 series FW so much I'm going to do the 400 series version sometime before the end of the year and go for as much of a scale look as possible without painting. I'm going to experiment with chalking some more and add guns, lights and other little details to make it pop.

I recently bought 1/8“ and 3/16" sport rubber, any recommendations on what would be a good power package for my FW 190? I was thinking about starting with one loop of the 3/16" or maybe 2 loops of 1/8". I haven't played around with it much, but I used 1 loop of 1/8" on my 900 series Mustang and it worked alight but with the 190 being heavier I'm thinking it'll need more torque to get altitude.
