Wid's Guillow's kit 5011

Good news and bad news; The good news I received my Mig 15 kit Gu 5012 from Aerowerks. The bad news is... I had to box up the unfinished Corsair 5011 kit. I plan on making the Mig 15 into a 2 ch RC electric powered model.

I moved into my new house and unpacked this unfinished kit. I plan on re starting the build. I also have been trying to improve the length of my flight times. I am thinking maybe that be increasing the rubber motor from 1/8" to 3/16". I don't think I'm "Stretch Winding" far enough. I stretch the rubber about 5 times the resting length.

Great job on the Zero and flies really well. Looks like you have a winner there.

Thanks Bill, I have been learning to fly 4 ch RC planes. In the near future I may even try a Gulliow's conversion. As you can see I've been doing some experimenting with the Zero. Most of the damage to the Zero was caused from the model slipping out of my winding stooge. My experiment results seemed to indicate that I was not stretching the motor enough when I was winding. I used to stretch about 5 times the resting length. Now I learned to stretch the motor out as much as possible.

I am now in the covering stage of the build. I am used white glue and water to attach and seal the tissue. I have to wait it out while the tissue dries. Decided to go ahead and update the ole build post. This kit is designed to be light so I think it should fly well.

Nice job on the construction. did the kit come with a canopy, or did you make that yourself?

Water shrinking tissue paper, I get better results using as little water as possible. A fine mist sprayer works well. Hold the spray bottle far away. Just enough to slightly dampen the tissue. The tissue shrinks more evenly, fewer wrinkles and less warping.

I've also found that with wings/tail feathers, especially with thin balsa for the outline, clamping them down keeps them warp-free. I build on a steel workboard, so I use some of my magnets to hold them in place.

Thanks for the tips I could use all the help I can get to make my models look a bit better. BTW the Corsair does come with a cardstock cut out of the windshield.

I ran out of 1/8" rubber. I will have to wait on the resupply before I can really try and fly this model. I was able to do some trim flying with 3/16" inch rubber but I think will fly better with 2 loops or 4 strands of 1/8" rubber.

I do have a couple of ole PP kits but I like this forum so I decided to build/post a 500 Series kit.
