Nova First Air War Documentary

Just watched a Nova documentary on Netflix called First Air War. A group in New Zealand is reconstructing exact copies of WWI airplanes. Great reference for scale builders, and gives a nice glimpse into what it was like to fly those birds.

Elk,, I think this company is part of who you are talking about. I cant find the bookmark for them but they did send me some pics of a Lewis gun mount I needed. They serve the movie industry also. If I can find it I will edit post with their link.
They have a bunch of WW1 planes they have refurb'd and built.

Yes, that's the group. Thanks for the link, great reference pictures. I've done colonial reenactments and it gives you a much greater understanding of the material culture of that era. Their reproductions and the attempt to use them under almost battle situations were very interesting. I wasn't aware that so much knowledge on these planes and tactics were forgotten or lost.

Was that the documentory where they proved the Red Baron had actually been killed by ground fire and not from the politically correct way we are taught? I have tried to find that show again but cant locate what it was on.

The one on the Rotte Baron was a different documentary. I can't remember what the name was but it is quite well researched. Being too cavalier after a concussion probably was the biggest factor. Nova's First Air War is inspiring. It gives you a new appreciation for the ingenuity of the era. :D
