Another Guillows Se5

Postby scigs30 » Sun Feb 28, 2016 10:21 pm

This is probably my third Guillows Se5 that I have built over the years and probably not my last. This was an older laser cut kit with heavier wood but I decided to build it anyway. The older Se5 that I have shown was built from this kit but I used my own lighter balsa and cut out all the parts. That Se5 flies great and has won a contest or two and I surprise everyone when I tell them it is a Guillows Design. I was going through some old kits when I came across this kit and decided to throw it together real fast. Once again the build is straight out of the box but I did have to use older decals so they did not go on real smooth. The tissue is the kit tissue and the color is from Colormast spray paints applied after one coat of clear dope. Painting only added 3.5 grams to the build, not bad considering. The lighter wood version I built came in at 90.20 grams balanced and ready to fly. This build with heavier wood came in at 126 grams balanced and ready to fly. I already did some trim flights with the supplied rubber and she does pretty well.

Here are some pictures, the lighter green Se5 is the lighter version I built, the covering on that kit was Green Esaki.

The SE5A looks like a good plane for free flight with the long nose and generous surface area. I have two Guillow LC kits that im afraid to start until I get more information and experience. At what angle did you set the wings, stabilizer and thrust? Your examples are excellent thanks scigs30!
