retracts for 1/16 scale guillows airplanes

Postby woundedbear » Tue Mar 22, 2016 11:00 pm

I was just thinking is there any retractable landing suitable for Guillows (3/4'' = 1'.0'') or 1/16th scale model airplanes? I am kind of getting ahead of myself here," I have yet to cover any of the 4 Guillows airplanes that I've built ", but when," I bought my first and so far only transmitter and 6 channel receiver ", some years back. At the time the nearest hobby shop that sold RC stuff was just closing their doors," this is why I buy things like balsa wood and model airplane dope from SIG if I buy 150 dollars worth I get free shipping ". Looks like the days of Mom and Pop hobby shops :( are gone the way of independent Grocery Stores, and Pharmacies. But back to my topic, do any companies make retractable landing gear for Guillows (3/4'' =1'.0'') or 1/16th scale model airplanes? When it comes to retractable landing gear the only thing I know is is basic stuff, " and I'm not too sure about that ". I think retracts come in only three flavors, Mechanical, Pneumatic, and Electric but I am not sure of even that :?

I have a thread with the FW190, with MPI micro retracts installed. Getting them to fit without thickening the wing requires a good bit of effort. The tailwheel is also retractable and steerable. The model is actually lighter than another Guillows FW190 build that I have flown, but when I get around to flying this model, I doubt I would ever use the fragile retracts, unless it proves to be a really good flyer and only after some number of flights. I also used them for the Dauntless, where they are probably comparably as strong, as the gear legs are shorter.

I'm Starting a Spitfire thread soon where I will be Using the MPi micro Retracts. I enlarged the plan to a 34"WS for several reasons, but I plan to build the smaller version with the super heavy die cut wood. This stuff is more like spruce ! I will get familiar with the areas and test different ways to mount and actuate them on the smaller one so I wont waste a bunch of good contest wood. I never did them (retracts ) yet. I usually mess the first few up. Horizon has micro electric retracs for just under $100.00 I think.I cut out the pieces after work.
