Many thanks! Quite helpful indeed, and it gets me moving again. TBH my approach to this point has been avoidance behavior as it did not make sense that the leading edge would be quite that large and blocked up only to require a lot of sanding to remove half the bottom...it's a decent kit and I did not want to begin with a trial and error approach only to tear it apart and start again. My intent is to proceed as you describe and hopefully it will turn out as nice!
