Tried something new!

On the Rufe build, I decided to try using uhu glue stick for adhering the tissue on instead of using dope.
I noticed all the peanut scale modelers,e tc prefer to use this in order to cut down on weight, so I figured I would give it a try.

Does not smell, but takes a lot longer I think, and your fingers get pretty sticky.

Have to let it sit for a lot longer than the dope in order for the glue to dry, plus I also put the tissue on dry. Thats not my usual practice as I prefer applying it wet, using dope to adhear it.

I guess I am so used to the dope version, so thats why it seems more difficult.

Anyone use the uhu glue stick?

I use stick glue, sometimes. One benefit is that I can reposition the tissue fairly easily. Also, it's quick and simple to apply. My preferred method is white glue.

I have used Elmers Glue Stick with satisfactory results when dry tissue covering. No brush clean-up is an excellent benefit.........JGJ

After finishing the Rufe, I decided that the glue stick method of adhering the tissue on, is not for me.
I prefer putting on the tissue, wet, using dope.
For me, I obtain a much better result using the old methods.

I am sure others successfully use the glue stick though, so not knocking it, just I didn't prefer it in the long run.

I'm with you Xanadu. I tried the glue stick method on my first model since returning to the hobby this time last year and although it turned out ok I wouldn't say it wasn't a huge success. I used the tried and trusted dope method on my next model and haven't looked back. Glue sticks obviously work great for some people, but not for us two at least!

I started using the glue stick method after seeing a post in the original Gullow's Builders group on Yahoo. I had just started back into the hobby, but my wife is quite allergic to the dope, even if it's out in the garage, so I stayed with the Uhu Gluestick/Krylon method. It takes a little practice, and a little patience, since, as you guys have noted, dope dries a lot faster.

I have also been using Testor's Acryl and Tamaya acrylics, thinned with alcohol, in my air brush to paint my models. The amount of water in the acrylics is frightening at first, but proved not to be a problem, except for waiting overnight between colors. (Unless it's a nice 100 degree (F) day, like today.) I have also been using acrylic artist's ink, which takes some practice, but gives some very interesting and light results.

I'm sure that I would have stayed with nitrate dope if I weren't married.
