Pretty quiet around here lately..............

Wonder where every one went..............?

I imagine once winter encrouches upon us, we will all be stuck indoors, doing our builds once again.
Summer is the time for being outdoors, flying, yardwork, etc..........no time for builds, fly instead! I got invloved with electric foamies, been a blast all summer.

Myself, I know summer is a outdoor time for me, since the winters are way too long and cold up here. So in short, my builds have been neglected due to taking all available time for flying, and other warm outdoor activites.
But, cold weather is approaching fast, so the next few months will be for builds once again.

Snow should be here any day, and lasts until late March/early April. Average winter day in Dec. - Feb tends to be around -4 to -22, with lows typically in Jan and Feb of around -40. Needless to say, we don't stay outside any more than needed, for anything.
March brings us sunny warm days of 14 to 32*, which after a few weeks of -35 to -40, seems like a heatwave!


My Dauntless is sitting quietly, waiting to be finished.
The P-38, and B-17 are still in their boxes, awaiting a wonderful ending to their long bout of patience.

Yes, it has been quiet around here. Maybe you are right everyone might be spending their time flying. That's what I've been trying to do is fly them. Haven't heard from CD since he got back from the museum.
I think we lost mr. Oshust to virtualaerodrome, he posts there regularly.
Noticed flightboi posted here recently. Maybe he is up to something. I guess you've noticed the group newbie planning on covering his model with real aluminum. Fascinating.

By the way, Xanadu that P-38 and B-17 sound like really fun builds. I'd like the to build the 17 myself. Got my 26 year old Guillow Fokker Tri-plane back in the air.

I'm a little further to the south where we have a lengthy rainy season with relatively few weeks of freezing weather and little snow, but still not flying weather.

The Virtual Aerodrome is a nice place to hang out as long as you don't need to have a lengthy conversation. It is also not just for Guillow's kits. My first build was a Guillow's but the last two have not been, it doesn't seem right to use this BB for non-Guilllow's builds.

Many of the questions I have had about glues, tissue covering, painting, etc are answered by searching this forum's archives. As I get myself into more complex builds I will probably find more need to post here. Until then I'll just keep lurking.

I'm a lot further south. NC. Right now we have some of our best flying weather, Sept to Nov. Unfortunately, none of my models are airworthy.

Steve did you build your Guillow model to fly? or display?

I'm here supercruiser! I've started a couple of topics - 'Silkspan?' and 'SE5a decals' - and have posted a few times since my museum trip.

I regularly check this forum, usually at least once a day to see if anything new has appeared. There seems to be more activity over at the Virtual Aerodrome, but I suppose that's because it's mainly just for posting photos of everybody's builds and completed models which are usually regularly updated. This is the place, as far as I'm concerned, if I want to ask questions or go into detail about anything.

I'm still plodding along with my SE5a, and have almost reached the point where I've finished covering the fuselage and can attach the lower wing. After that, hopefully, things will progress a bit quicker. When that's finished, next up is the series 400 P-40 Warhawk, then possibly the B-25 Mitchell that has been waiting patiently since arriving as a birthday present back in June.

I thought I was going to build it to fly, but got carried away with the paint job and it was too heavy to fly. The best I could get was about 3-4 seconds of flight.

For next year's G Challenge I'll make sure to do my homework and build as light as I can.

Oh, yeah, I did see your post on the Se5A decals.
Did you ever get the Hurricane to fly well?
Display or flying for the P-40 of yours??

I'm afraid the Hurricane didn't fly at all, let alone well . Oh well, live and learn! I haven't decided if the P-40 will be built for display or to fly yet, my decision will be based on whether the 400 series kits are chosen for next years "G" Challenge or not.
