Ordinarily, it takes about a month. This one was started in August, but it got so hot in september/October, and I quit smoking, so there was no reason to hang out in the garage.

we're back in production now, so look out!

Xanadu and I are deciding what's next...

OK, Bill, so what does this one weigh? Is is powered? Will it fly? From the photos it looks like you used different stock to make the formers and ribs. What are the details? Inquiring minds want to know.

This one came in at a portly 22 pounds, and no, no motor, no, no flying, just static.

The kids across the street wanted one more bi-plane, and I'm a soft touch...

Good eye on the materials, Howard. Remember if you will that a buddy of mine gave me 4
four by eight sheets of wall paneling plywood, that he'd been seasoning in his garage for
15 years. This plane marks the end of the free materials, and I just got back from Home
Depot... I gots lots of plywood in stock now...

This plane almost didn't get finished as some of you know, I quit smoking on September 1st.
Around here, September is our hottest month, and as there was no more reason to hang out in
the garage, there wasn't much reason to get interested in that durned half done plane in the
garage. Took alot of effort, after a month long time out, just to get interested in it again.

But here we are, and the spitfire is just getting started... Me and Xanadu are building side by
side, 1400 miles apart... (2246 kilometers?... )

Howard, you should join us. The spit plans are online at:

http://www.parkerinfo.com/spitfire/spitfire.zip

SteveM? I bet you could build a nifty big one...

The gauntlet is thrown! :D

Let's do it again...

Postby BillParker » Fri Oct 02, 2009 9:25 am

For the first time in just over 40 years, (I'm 53) my Dad has joined me for a build. He's having so much fun, that he has agreed to participate in the B-17 build. I've also received from the AMA Plan Service the B-29 plans, and have begun the planning for blowing the bomber to a ridiculously large size...

Nicely under-cambered wings but I think you need to lighten the fuselage to make him fly. :P

Nice Job Bill. I've done a few enlarged Guillows builds. I built a vintage Guillows Storch recently, and the idea of an enlarged build has really been on my mind, as Guillows has a very simple build that produces a good looking Storch, compared with some much more inricate designs.

I see you have built the standard Stearman also. It's on my Guillows list. Just flew my Sopwith today, and I would imagine the Stearman is a better flyer yet. There's a YouTube video nested in here too.

09/10/09 http://www.parkerinfo.com/ap61.htm Diels Engineering Inc., FAIREY FULMAR Mk I 65"

They're BIG. The C-46 turned out bigger than I could handle by myself. It was a mistake to build it that big, but I have a B-25 and a B-29 project coming up that will be bigger...

What I'd like to learn is how to choose the right R/C components to make em fly.

I'd like to attend a school, where they tell you what motor, esc, servos, radio xmitter and receiver... and on and on...
