Fist, turn up a cylinder head . . .







Then after moulding, inject some 3 hour epoxy in the moulds 9 times . .

Where did you get the metal (aluminum?) foil?

I get mine from a UK stockist, but any car accessory shop would have it as simple speed tape.

Real sheet aluminium for model covering.
Self adhesive, Only weighs 9.4 gm per sq foot.
.Easy finish - stick it on, ready to paint, polish or burnish to required effect.
Of course its fuelproof. Easily replace a patch if damaged.
600 mm wide.

The master is turned 'chemiwood' and the mould is 2 part silicone RTV.

Glad you like the work. I have had some fun doing this. It is great to go back to real balsa and tissue rather than all this modern stuff where model making is becoming a lost trade. Just got to make the box for next weekends trip and she is done. . . .well as much as I can in the 2 weeks I had. Will take some more pics this weekend once I get a chance.

Here is the reg number going on . . .airbrushed graphics as the waterslide decal set in the old kit box was dried out and all cracked up, so I scanned it and made up some masks.

Are you planning on flying this model after it's all finished, or just displaying it?

Hi Mad Cap,

Static only I'm afraid. Just doing it for the laugh realy to take with me to Scotland next week to my friends model club for a concours night. Been meaning to go there for a few years, but allways missed it, so this time I will have something to bring on the filght over on next Thursday.

Should be good fun with a lot of the clubs and members present bringing models they have been building over the winter to do a 'show and tell' so to speak.

Looking forward to the scottish night life too . . . .

Anyway, here are the finished pictures of the build.

Total build time was 16 days and I am guessing about 45'ish hours total time from the start of the project. Not exactly ARTF, but I have to say, it was good to get building a 'real' model and I think I will have to go fo another Guillows Plane once I see one around.

What silver paint did you use?

I found some old Dope from one of my wholesalers, but he didn't have aluminum. Mind you, they haven't totally sorted out the aerogloss yet.

When I painted one of my planes silver I took the fast way out. I spray painted it. The plane came out OK.
