It's very satisfying to see someone turn a Guillow's kit into a museum quality model. You could almost expect to see Lindbergh walking around doing a pre-flight in the photo of it against the sky where you cannot see the not to scale tarmac. Very well done!

Thanks to the replies lads. I have seen better here on this site, so I am delighter that you like mine.

What would make a nice build in the Guillows range? Any suggestions that I could do for fun.

Its important that a person build what inspires him.
Might I recommend;

A man of your skills could do great things with a model like this. The detail work is one reason I have put this one off. It could be built as a 2 seater.
Thanks again for the step by step photos.

I found some old Dope from one of my wholesalers, but he didn't have aluminum. Mind you, they haven't totally sorted out the aerogloss yet.

Hi MC,

I used clear shrinking dope (1 airbrushed coat), then clear non-shrinking dope (4 airbrushed coats), then 2 airbrushed coats of Humbrol Metalic 'Number 11' enamel paint 1/5 of a 14ml can (3ml) for the whole model thinned 60% with thinners. For the letters, a mix of mat and gloss black with some white and brown to make it not so BLACK. For the weathering, I used dry brushed brown and dark grey where needed.

Hope this answers all.
Cheers,

Dave Matthews, as a suggestion I think that a bomber like the b-17 or b-24 would look cool.

The B-25 that Guillow's offers is a greatly detailed one as well. Should be up to your workmanship to say the least.

Dave, I say the 1000 series Corsair.

Lots of detail to keep you busy, and your photographic abilities will serve our Guillow's community well. We're all here to learn, and bubba, you da man!

I'd been curious about the Lindburg kit for years, thank you for the education.

Please, whatever kit you choose, continue to share with us your expertise.

Sincerely,

Thank you very much for your replies guys. Well if I can get another Guillows from somewhere, I will do another build here.

Oooo, the big Guillows models do look very tasty indeed. :D

In the men time, my Spirit is packed up and ready to go to Scotland thing Thursday for the concours event. El-cheep-O airlines from Shannon, Ireland (just down the road) to Prestwick, Scotland and the main event on Friday from 7.30 pm GMT. . . . . should be fun. . . . can't wait.

Will post pics of the other models here on Sunday when I get back.

Well,

Concours is over. What a great turn out. about 30-40 models on show in both sport and scale classes. Will post pics when I get home tomorrow night. At mate house at the moment is Scotland. The turn out for spectators was about 100 bodies, so the EKMFC did well for the night. Silent auction was good too.

1st place in Sport catorgry was our mate, Dave Kelly with his F3A 'Intergral'

1st place in Scale was Bill Grimsley with his Jetwelt Models "BAC Jet Provost.

The Spirit of St. Louis got 2nd place in Scale . . . Very happy with the result there.

To sum up, great night, great company, Fantastic Event and a big well done to all at the EKMFC for putting on the night. Our host for the Evening (who makes it all happen) is Douglas Dickie, the long standing and allways smiling, chairman of the club.

MORE LATER > > > > > >
