Ask other modelers for a little help / knowledge ?

thymekiller,
Looking good on the fuse. I noticed the fuse assembly is like my 900 series P-51. Your 180 should be a good flyer. Have you decided tissue yet and using wet or dry technique?

I finished building kit number 602 Piper super cub last month. I finished the model in red and yellow Esaki tissue, looks just like the picture on the box.
Tryed to do some glide test indoors, i think it will fly well. :)

Thanks RG. Will cover with pre shrunk esaki. Dry. Dark blue ,white trim. I use glue stick and maybe 1 coat of dope. Might try wet on a couple sections of this plane. Have never covered wet.

Flyboyz, I could post at V.A. , but all of my other stuff is on photobuckett. There is some really great stuff on V.A. I have nothing against it, its just that I post on other forums also and this is easyer for me. I guess I could post on V.A. , just so there would be one of these. My plane probly wont look as good as most of the others. Will see when its finished. Maybe if I stand WAY back from it, it wont look like I built it. :lol:

So? Are you entering this one in this year's "G" Challenge? It's for 600 and 700 series kits this year.

Thank you for the link. Thats interesting. Did not know about that.
I have already cheated on the wood and used the wrong glue.
However.
Dying to build the lancer and the javlin. [ Rooting for the lancer} The arrow is nice......
Need to look into this. Can I use my own prop and rubber? My own covering?

2009 Guillows "G" Challenge Rules

"Sixes and Sevens Challege"

Here are the rules for the 2009 Guillows "G" Challenge

1. Eligibility:

a. The "G" Challenge is open to anyone in the world.

b. There is no entry fee.

c. You must have a Yahoo login ID and join the group Guillows "G" Challenge.

d. This group and the Challenge were created and are maintained by its moderator for the enjoyment of Guillow's model enthusiasts and has no official connection with Paul K. Guillow, Inc.

2. Prizes:

a. There are two first prizes for 2009, Overall Flying/Appearance and Best Appearance.

b. A Guillow's kit prize will be awarded to each first prize winner

c. You may enter more than one model.

d. All models will be judged for appearance. A model is considered for the Overall prize simply by posting a flying time for it in the entry database.

3. Eligible models:

a: The 2009 Challenge is for any Guillow's 600 or 700
series model.

601 – Cessna 180
602 – Piper Cub 95
603 - Javelin
604 - Lancer

701 – Fairchild 24
702 - Arrow

4. Structure:

a. The model must be built with the kit wood and plastic parts from
the kit.

b. The nose of the model may be modified to make the thrust line more adjustable, for ease of winding and maintaining the motor. The position of the motor peg, fore and aft, may be changed. The model may be lightened by any means, sanding, cutting lightening holes, reducing the width of wing and tail outlines, as long as the kit wood is used Plastic parts may be lightened if possible (be creative). Any structural reinforcement deemed necessary may be added. Wings may be made removable. The model may be covered in any tissue or plastic film.

c. Dethermalizers of the pop tail, speed brake, or spoiler types may be added to prevent flyaways. (See Notes)

d. Radio Control return rudders may be added to prevent flyaways and allow flying in small spaces, as long as the flight power is still a rubber band. (See Notes)

5. Propellers and Power:

a. Rubber power only.

b. Any suitable propeller, shaft and thrust button may be used.

6. Time Limits:

a. The Challenge starts as soon as the rules are posted. (See Notes)

b. The deadline for finishing the model and posting pictures and flying time is October 31, 2009.

7. Posting Entries:

a. Entries are posted at the "G" Challenge group on Yahoo:

b. An album, 2009 Challenge Entries, will be set up for posting pictures.

c. Post a 3/4 front view and 3/4 rear view jpeg image of the model, clearly identified with your name. The images should have at least 720 X 480 resolution with 1024 X 768 desirable. Note: Yahoo will reduce the resolution of any larger image to about 800 X 680 on upload.

d. Do not post anything but your entry photos in the 2009 Challenge Entries album. Create a personal album for progress pictures.

e. A database, 2009 Challenge Entries will be set up for the flight times and short comments about model. After you post your pictures make an entry in the database.

8. Judging:

a: Appearance judging will be on the basis of 100 possible points for appearance.

b. The flying points are awarded on the basis of the best three flights made by the model before the Challenge deadline. The time of each flight is entered in the base and the points per flight are awarded as follows:

20 to 40 seconds.......each second = one point.
41 to 94 seconds.......each second = one half point.
Over 94 seconds...no additional points...bragging rights.

Maximum possible flying points = 199 (3 flight total).

c. The staff at Guillow has kindly volunteered to do the appearance judging from the posted photographs. Their scores are final.

d. When all the appearance point scores have been received by the moderator the results will be posted in a database, 2009 Challenge Results.

Notes:

- Since many people get the wind taken from their sails by having to wait until January 01 of the Challenge year to start their models, from now on each "G" Challenge will start as soon as the rules are posted.

- If you use an R/C recall rudder, please, observe the AMA rules on frequency and flight area interference, mainly the one about not flying within one mile of an area where R/C models are being flown. We don't want anyone in this group to cause someone to loose control of a large or fast R/C model that can do some real damage.

- If you use a fuse operated dethermalizer, please, make sure that it meets the fire code in your flying area.

I hope that post of the rules clears up any questions. I have a question. What glue is the wrong glue?

I'm useing cya. I use it alot, despite the weight issue. I like the stuff, but there are lighter glues. Just dont want to wait forever for them to dry. :lol: I dont think it is THAT much heavier, if you are careful with it.
Which glue do you prefer? I cant seem to get along with duco cement very well.
Gonna check out the Yahoo site as soon as I get logged on. I'm logged with the Yahoo comet site. I think I might enter. We will see.

Its coming along slowly. Got the fuse covered tonite. Pics tommorrow.

Progress pic. Got the kit from evil-bay. It was missing the window sheet, landing gear and tissue. I got lots of that stuff in the parts pile, but I need to order a some clear window plastic. I think its called acetate.
Use a thin wall alu. tube for a rear peg. Might re-think that.....
Landing gear is de-mountable for flight. Still need to balance prop, but its pretty close. Has 1 loop of 1/8 sport rubber, equal lengh to the fuse. Should be enought to trim with.

Did a weight test and guess what?
There is no differance. They all weigh exactly the same. .15 grams.
Later, I will do a better test, but I thought that there would be a HUGE differance.
Next, I will test glue stick against dope as a means to attach tissue.

I will break all the test pieces and see which holds stronger. I'm betting the thin cya will be the strong winner.

I would like to post pictures of my planes, but i need to borrow a digital camera. Hey thymekiller thats some good looking blue tissue. Your model is coming out well. I see you use a digital weight scale. I need to get one myself, building flying models without is to hit and miss. I tryed to get a weight scale at the local hobby shop , and they suggested i try the post office. Were did you get yours? I see from the electric winder you bought one of those foam profile planes, how well do they fly?
