Yeah, its going to take a while to do...........

Then I need to sand the foam flush, and then I can begin to fiberglass it.
I left the foam up just a shade from flush, so it will be flush once done sanding. Don't want to have low spots if I can help it.

Well, it seems that Bill and Xanadu are not the only ones building a really big Spitfire model. See what you can get yourself into if you keep scaling these things up!

These are from a FULL SIZED, flyable Spitfire under construction. Of course it was not scaled up from the Guillow's plans, but it's not far off the mark. They are building it of wood with balsa and birch sandwich skins, the same construction method as the Mosquito. In a way, it's not too different from what Xanadu is doing with the Depron foam. It will be powered by an 1100 horsepower, Allison V-1710, more available and cheaper than a Merlin, and since it is expected to be over a ton lighter than an original Spitfire, is expected to have equal or better performance. The objective is to have a Spitfire to fly that does not cost millions of dollars a year to maintain in flyable condition as a real WW2 Spitfire does.

I am still working on my Spit. Just no time lately, work has been very busy to say the least.

I did finish installing the foam section on the top of the wing, boy it sure takes a long time.
Going to go and price out some thin balsa sheeting to do the fuselage, and just sheet over it instead.

I wondered if the foam would be the right choice on the fuse... I guess that you still plan the fiberglass the whole project once decked?

Yes, I plane to fiberglass the entire plane yet.

Just a bad time of year for me to have the extra time to work on it. Too many things going on work, spending 11-12 hours a day there right now.

Bill, Thanks. I'm hopeing to have a new printer by then. That and a serious clean up in my room. I might even get a trash can instead of letting it pile up on the floor. :lol: :lol:
