Flyboys and The Red Baron

Postby Xanadu » Sun May 24, 2009 9:24 pm

I think everyone here has seen Flyboys, but how many have seen The Red Baron?
It is somewhat similar story line, but based on the German side.

Got my hands on a copy, the flying scenes (except the night fight) were quite good.

The critics didn't like it but I found the movie to be well done even though there are some serious distortions on people and events in history.

The flying scenes I thought were very well done. The story line isn't that great ( being a fragmented version of MvR ). On the whole, I enjoyed the movie.

I did not like Flyboys.
the engines on the arcrafts was not moving as they did on the real aircrafts for cooling.
the story was boring too, but its a bit fun to watch it
and its good to see that they still make airplane mowies.
the best airplane/war mowie is BATTLE OF BRITAIN,
its a must see mowie and they use real arcrafts too :)

I was only able to find De Rote Baron in German with Czech subtitles. Nice visuals but the plot was a bit difficult to follow since I don't understand German nor Czech.
A bumblebee isn't supposed to fly but does.
My plane is supposed to fly but doesn't.
Balances out doesn't it : )

OMG!! Battle of Britain is amazing. I own it, and have watched it too many times to count. It is awesome how they use the actual planes.

what about Von Richthofen and Brown (1971) also known as The Red Baron (Roger Corman). Have you seen it?

Of the movies mentioned here I like "The Blue Max" the best. I bought "The Red Baron" on Amazon and enjoyed it. Von R. and Brown is out of print and not available at the moment, although I saw it in the theatre when I was a teenager, sat though it twice! I also have Flyboys and it okay, but my least favorite.

I like when ,in those old movies, you can tell that its a model on a fishing string being filmed and not a real plane.
