CHEROKEE 140

Postby UPLANDBOY » Sun Nov 15, 2009 12:39 pm

I just started another Guillows Cherokee 140 kit (kit #307). I have built several in my years, but none ever flew. I once did get a Cessna 150 kit to fly and it flew nicely. I have made some modifications to this kit to hopefully get it to fly by doing the following.
1. Cut wing trailing edge in half.
2. make wing tips out of 1/16" wood and remove some material
3. Cut spar at third rib and add two side by side 1/16" strips from cut end of spar out to furthest rib.
4. Make rudder out of 1/16" balsa.
5. Make stabilizer out of 1/16" balsa and omit short strips.

I will post more as I go.

I built one of these years ago and it flew pretty good. The only thing I did to make it lighter was replace the wood, I did not shave or modify to the structure.
