Looking to buy a GOOD hobby knife set

Postby Deadstick Dave » Sat Feb 26, 2011 3:00 pm

The deluxe Exacto knife set w/box did not meet my expections.

Would someone please recommend a good quality set?

What expectations did it not meet? Give us some idea of exactly what your looking for, we might know of it.

Xandau:

The deluxe Exacto set was very cheaply made with lots of design flaws:

- the moulded trays readily fall out when the chest lid is opened

- the knives are very difficult to remove from the molded chest trays.

- the spare blades fall out of the chest when the lid is opened. (There is no means to retain them)

- the manufacturing quality of the individual tools is not that of Exacto tools of the past.

I view my tools as an artist views his brushes; only the best will do. Ask any surgeon about the importance of good operating tools.

If that us the case then the best place that comes to my mind is Lee Valley Tools.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I managed to acquire a 50's vintage Exacto knife set in a wooden chest so I now have a quality set of building tools.

The set is complete and in very good condition including the original Exacto decals.
