Yes the problem is that the electric drill has no "feel" you can normally feel the rubber getting tight when things are close to the max when you use a hand winder.

The wider the rubber the more the power... 3/16" rubber will be fine in this model, at least for a start

The choice is yours of course, but I'd go for the 10:1 winder, the maths is easier!!!!!

The winder will of course let you stretch wind, which will give you more winds. (remember those pictures I posted of my FROG model?)

awesome ill go for the 10:1, and i do remember the pictures of the frog plane. my plane is pretty light, and i dont suppose it will take too much torqe to keep it in the air so ill stick with the 3/16" rubber for now. what does downthrust do and how do i know i need it?

i know it has been a while since i started this project earlier this year, but never the less, i have finally gotten a chance to fly this bird. i got a few 25 second flights, and got to about 750 winds by the one here. despite this plane being thrown around and all, it flew very nicely. i even droped it on the tail and the tail broke off!! accidents happen, but i glued it back on and decided i would give it a whirl. so i can say that i have had my first sucess here on rubber power.

i used two loops of 3/32" rubber, about 1.25 times hook to peg length.

Of course, today flying this thing it finally took its last breath. its been tossed around a lot with the renovations. ive gotten a good 12-15 flights with it. ive learned a lot since i built this plane, even though i only build it over winter.

Phugoid, I am in total suport of your idea. however, it doesnt look like ill be able to get around to building a 180. instead, ill bump up my super cub, as they are very similar in construction, size, etc.
