Hello fellow model builders,

I am 16 and have been building balsa models since I was 11 (first model was the tbf avenger). I build mostly model airplanes (R/C, half A C/l, Free flight) and also model rockets. I plan on building either the 400 series P-51 or P-40 for .049 U-control in the future, so I'll be asking all sorts of questions when I get to it, in addition to other things.

The P-40 is easier to fly, but if you have any flight time at all, the 51 ain't no thang...

If you build the tail feathers right and fly short lines with the 51 it'll ppull a loop...

as supercruiser mentioned, im building a 1000 series corsiar to u control. if you like C/L, then you will like to see this. post pics of your progress/builds.

The 400 series makes a good scale control liner. I built a fw 190 back in the early 70's. I used a Golden Bee for the motor. It was a little under powered It would keep the lines tight but any stunts were out of the question. If you use a reed valve .049 you need to keep your model on the light side. An .049 medalian or TD .049 has plenty of power. Beef up the landing gear a little and swap out those hard plastic wheels for some light foam wheels.

i used the .049 Tee dee on the 400s. if you can, i would STRONGLY suggest that motor for it. it does an EXECLENT job. i even had pleanty of weight for 1/16" sheeting on the bottom of the wings, and ply wood and some metal screw rings on the elevator for my solo launches (which i made removeable for whenever i was so forchunate to have someone who could be a ground crew)
