Another newbie

Postby sawingman » Thu Apr 21, 2011 12:05 am

Hello All. I am a newbie to the forum and like many posters I am hoping to return to the hobby that I enjoyed 50 years ago. I have read many of the posts and am trying to get acquainted with the new techniques and tools that have evolved. Can anyone suggest one of the series 500 or series 900 kits that would be appropriate to build for re-immersion? Thanx in advance for your advice.

really all of the 500 series kits are great, and all of the 900s are great. i would start with a 900 mustang, typhoon, and then the bird dog (the bird dog is a little trickier than the mustang or typhoon) and then move onto a BF-109 500 series.

Welcome aboard! I guess I might suggest if you want to fly your model, I would go with the 600 series Piper Super Cub first to get a little experience before you build the somewhat trickier to fly Mustang. One thing though... The 900 series are are very easy to build. Pick one, run with it. You won't be dissapointed![/b]

thats a good idea. if its your first build in a long time, build it just to build it.

there are some great builds on here that you can look at. happy hunting.

I should have mentioned in my original post that I am not planning on flying, at least initially.

get yourself a 500 series. those are a bit of a challange for a beginner, but since you have built before, everything will come back to ya on those series. you need something simple but not too simple. a lot of guillows planes are built in the mannar the 500 series are, so it is good to get used to.

I am Long in tooth and returned to the hobby following retirement.....my suggestion would be the 500 Hurricane or the 900 Mustang...but, NOT the 500 Avenger......for starters. Luck!!!

Thanks all for the suggestions. I already have the 900 series Mustang and have always liked this plane, so I'll start with that.
