How to Post Pictures Tutorial (With Pictures)

Postby ADW 123 » Thu Apr 21, 2011 6:35 pm

since a lot of people have been wondering, i figured i would do everyone a favor and make a quick tutorial that is easy to follow for pictures. I understand may new people come to the forum all the time, and most cant figure out how to post pics (thats understandable)

first you have to upload your pictures to some kind of internet picture storage site. i use photobucket. i find that easiest, but that is for me. we could argue all day long about which site is best and why.

Image

notice how i am hovering over the picture with my curser. this brings up a menu then you should be able to see. one of the captions is "direct link" which is exactly what you will need. i know that many different sites have different ways of doing things but you always need/end up with one thing, the direct link. in photobucket, just clicking on the link copies it, but you should copy it by any means necessary.

now you press the IMG button located towards the top of your message creation screen.

Image

you press that ONCE. now you need to paste (by any means) your direct link right there after you have pressed the IMG button. then you press that image button again (it will have a star next to it). the IMG button the first time you press it and the second time you press it are two different things, so make sure you get them right!

Image

now, you press the preview buttion down at the bottom of your screen. this will bring you to something like this--

Image

keep in mind that i cut of a part of my picture so you could see the bottom area, how it is the same composeing window as before, just with your message on top.

it shows EXACTLY what it would look like if you were to press submit, however it is EDITABLE. if you find a problem with your IMG, or you want to add soemthing etc. just correct it. once you have figured that there is nothing left to mess with, press SUBMIT which will permenatly post it to the board.

Hope this helps the newbies to the forum, or those who simply dont know. im hopeing that more people will post pics of their projects because of this.

Let me know if there are any questions. i can help to the best of my ability.

Okayyyyyy... I'm using a thing called shutterfly. I get no "direct link" things on that website. Any other way to do it?

i wouldnt use shutterfly if it is so complicated for you to use. i just looked at it and could not find a direct link. just use photobucket. it is easier than shutterfly. let me know how it goes.

There is no need to click on the IMG button on this site, just use the direct link from the other one.

i will show you the bare code, that it should look like before you submit.

[img] goes in front

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n63 ... C00219.jpg
goes inbetween

[/img] goes at the end.

if you look at the way you did it, you will notice there is an extra right bracket in the code for the first image. it reads- [img]]http://%20etc.%20right%20after%20the%20[img],%20you%20will%20notice%20an%20extra%20].%20this%20throws%20it%20all%20off,%20and%20wont%20post%20the%20picture.%20the%20second%20picture%20did%20not%20have%20the%20 at the end of it, so no pictures turned up.

computers are stupid. they only do what you tell them to do.

since you have a photobucket, photobucket makes this whole coding thing real easy. ill show you how.

when you hover over the image you want to post, it will look like the screen shot below. look at the red circle. click on the little box there, and it will copy the text inside of it. this is doing the whole thing i showed you above in one click.

Image

paste it into text area by either right clicking>paste or if you have a windows computer control v is a shortcut. this will put the code you just coppied from photobucket right into the guillows forum message composition box. (the box you type in to reply to a topic)

when you paste it inside, it will look something like this. the two things will be there, one on the left, one of the right, as you can see here. this is the CORRECT formatting of code for your photos. look carefully!

Image

next, you can press preview (circled in blue) and it will bring you to what it would look like if you actually pressed submit. if you made an error, dont worry, fix it in the type box bellow the preview. it is not written in stone yet. once you press submit, then its live on the forum and it cannot be eddited.

hope this helped. give it a shot.

Image

when you are done and sure there are no errors in your message, you can click submit.

the reason i did not go into that before was that people were asking about other "photobucket sites" that were for storing photoes online but not like photobucket does. photobucket makes it pretty easy, but i wanted to show people how to do it with just the bare image code(direct link, you can see it when you hover over a picture like in my screenshot)

i think thats it. let me know how you do.
