ARGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH..........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Postby Xanadu » Wed Jan 17, 2007 11:26 pm

I finished painting the T-Bolt, and also put a coat of Min Polycrylic on it, and it looked pretty decent. Super glossy...........

Anyways, it was time to decal it. Little did I realize how yellowed the decals had become until I put them on and they dried!

AAAARRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......................!!!!!.

Now I just spent 2 hours painting over all the decals to make them brighter and look as new as the paint.
Tommorrow a 2nd and maybe a 3rd coat to finish them up.

This is one of the most detailed ones I have done yet, so when things mess up like that, its frustrating. So like someone else said........walk away, take a deep breath, and do something else for while instead.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every second of this build so far.

I find modeling very stress relieving, and quite relaxing.

ARGGGHHHHHH indeed!

Hope you get it sorted ok. Yes it's very frustrating when something like that happens :(. I'm having a slight problem finishing my Fokker Triplane at the moment - got to strip the tissue off parts of an otherwise flawless top wing and try to re-cover them with chalked white tissue, whilst trying to make it look like it was meant to be like that all along! It's my biggest model yet and I'm so close to finishing it. I'm really pleased with it but I'm so scared of mucking it up or damaging it at this late stage.

I'm sorry to hear that y'all are having trouble with the final stages of the T-bolt and the Tri-plane. We've all been there; in one way or another. My guess is they are going to be some nice looking models!

How's the FW190 coming along cdwheatley?

The TBolt looks very good Xanadu. Now you need a little diorama to show it off!

It's almost there James. I had a major cock-up when trying to fit the wing fairings and was getting a bit bogged down with it to be honest, so I put it to one side and came back to it at a later date. That later date was just before Christmas, when I'm pleased to say that I managed to salvage the situation, and am now almost ready to start painting it. I will definitely put some pictures on your site when it's finished!

My Fokker Triplane is now finished too, just tonight actually, and some pictures of that will be posted too just as soon as I can take some decent ones.

Never mind, I found out what a diorama is........

Thanks, the T-Bolt was one of the most detailed ones I ever have done yet, and I am happy on how it turned out. There is lots of room for improvment, as I know where all the flaws are........but otherwise I am happy with it.
Its been strung up, in a flying pose with the rest of the squadron. It really puts the others to shame. Kinda neat to see my progression in the last several months. I took all the squadron down and restrung them with monofiliment so you do not see those gastly strings anymore.

Have not yet decided which is next, but am leaning towards the Giant scale Stuka. Then the P-38, and after that the B-17.
I reviewed all the plans for them over the weekend, and feel more comfortable progressing up to the B-17 after getting a few more under my belt first.

And I still have my Great Planes PT-40 rc trainer to build yet for flying this summer. So many models, so little time............

I've now taken some pictures of my completed Fokker Triplane, snapped earlier today. Here's the link to them, and some others in my hangar at virtualaerodrome.com - http://www.virtualaerodrome.com/image_browser.html?l=1&p_user_id=203&offset=0

I'd be interested to know what you all think!

you did a fine job! I built this model a few years ago and know what you have gone thru.
Question: What did you use to border the cockpit opening. I really like that look. I have tried a number of objects to get that padded leather look but not as successful as you.
I also built the Sopwith Camel to hang with the Folker so they can forever battle each other in the ceiling 'sky' of my grandson's bedroom.

Thank you liale :D.

The cockpit surround is the brown insulation from a piece of cable 'acquired' from my workplace (an electronics factory, so plenty to choose from!), slit down it's length and carefully fed bit by bit onto the edge of the thin card that forms the cockpit. I had several attempts with different sizes before I found one just right but I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
