looking real good! What do you use for making the canopy?? I just picked up another mosquito its missing the canopy and nose part. I have other ones , i wanna make the oparts plus the nacelles also. Mark

I’ve been recycling packaging plastic, but I am trying to get some .020 PETG plastic that is made for thermoforming. I sent U a message re: the B-29 model.

I'm looking for a reasonable PETG source, like the large sheets I used to buy at the LHS. The K&S stuff works well, but it's expensive. I've been using packaging whenever possible, as you have.
Mustangman the small Mosquito parts would be easy to mold with a heat gun, heating the plastic and pulling it over a balsa mold. Small parts are nice. I built and flew the Mosquito a few years ago, fortunately being given a complete kit. The guy gave it to me with the understanding that I would build and fly it as an r/c model, which I did. I recently molded a canopy somewhat like the Mosquito's, for a Jet Provost. Easy hand pull at the small size. The nose part would also be an easy pull also, similar to the TU104 nose cone I molded a while back. The difficult part is doing a decent job sculpting the molds, and masking the canopy

Hi bill! Very nice work btw! I have 5 of those mossies now. I was trying to get some laser cut parts made for another kit but apparently the guy who used to make them for me wont do it. Hes had some health issues but he had another kit he would have sold me. I will eventually build a couple of them . Mark

A 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of 0.020" PETG costs $16 at my local plastics supplier. Shipping is not an issue since I drive 2 miles down the road to pick it up. Too bad you are all the way across the country. Wish I could help.

I managed to get some 0.030” PETG plastic from Amazon at a decent price. $40 for 25 sheets about 8” x 10” so I can get two canopies per sheet. I got a usable canopy after about four tries, then made three more to get a perfect one. That hurdle cleared, I can now finish the model.

I added some pipes/hoses to the cannons and a few other details. I will add a few more inspection covers, and armour plates around the cockpit. I think I will build the cockpit and paint it and the canopy last.

I used 0.030 PETG plastic to vacuform this canopy. It turned out as good as the mould it came from (not so good, a little rough!) would allow.

The canopy mold got some repairs, and I tried it out. The sides are no longer concave, but the plastic has bubbles in it from overheating. I sprayed a coat of white primer onto the airframe, but I keep adding cardboard details to it.

Looks great! what color scheme are you going with?? And what will your next plane build be? I havent built anything but i have a bunch of planes . I beleive i have 5 mosquitos now that i picked up . one i think has no plastics or canopy and i have laser cut wood for three of the kits. Mark

Thanks for the encouragement Mark! I am painting it with dark green and black green in the standard splinter style camouflage. Got some momentum building! Technically my next build is the P-40 but that is already built. I think I may try a scratchbuilt version of the Thunderbolt, but I’m going to the big city hobby store for paint soon so I might pick up a kit too.
