That said, maybe someone has an old set the could sell/loan to you. I still need mine as I have not yet built the kit.

Check out eBay item# 180192838050 (ends Dec-15-07 08:41:08 PST). It is a built Mosquito that includes the plans.

You could scrap the plane for parts and/or resell on eBay when you no longer need the plans.

I was aware of both of those resources but was not aware that the AMA had so many discontinued and current productions plans. I wonder why the B-17 and B-29 are $47. Seems like someone might pay that for the B-29 but not for the B-17.

sorry but I discovered that the plans I had online were flawed and incomplete. Yep, a true bummer...

If I can get some new ones, I'll make them available.

On a happier note, Steve, I bought the B-29 plans from the AMA plan service yesterday, and will make them available when I get them.

Copyright only lasts 50 years. Anything published before 1959 (as I am writing this in 2009) is in the public domain. Many vintage kits and prints are far older than this. Look at the copyright date on the document.
FYI: Public Domain means anyone can copy it, give it away or even sell it.

So the copy right is 1976 I guess. Is that the first year they made that model? Their may be pre-1959 plans available.

My 1972 catalog doesn't show any 800 series planes and the P-38 is just making its debut (the only 2000 series kit available then). The 1970 catalog doesn't even have the P-38.

A few dates on plans for some OOP kits that I have:
Fokker D8 - 1960
Fokker D7 - 1959
Nieuport 28 - 1957

Those Nieuport and D7 plans are in the public domain and free copyable, next year the D8 will be also.

I am wondering if the end of copyrights might have something to do with the removal from production on models.

I believe that the AMA has the old 800 series Mosquito plans for purchase. No word on whether that includes plastic parts, but I doubt that to be the case.

Copyrights are only worth pursuing if there's some money involved. Divesting someone of a few pennies on a discontinued kit (assuming they're profiting from the dissemination, which is unlikely) is hardly worth the money of employing an attorney.
