A simple question really - what is the best way to apply the black lines on a model that represent aileron, flaps, rudder etc separations?

Myself, if I am going to do the flaps, etc., I outline lightly in pencil, and then use black striping tape....don't like the gloss finish.....paint the tape flat before you apply............Luck, JGJ

I always thought you painted them on. :shock:

.........no wonder they were so straight and perfect widths.
Have to get me some, I have been painting mine with limited success and loads of failures.

. I ordered some soon after reading your post, and today took delivery of some 1/64 graphic tape to be followed by a roll of 1/32 when new stock arrives. Thanks too for the relevant photos over at the Virtual Aerodrome.

Chris,

I still do it the old fashioned way with a draftstman's ruling pen and India Ink. I've tried the roller pens and tape but I keep coming back to the ruling pen. Most likely this is because I was doing drafting and art work back before computers and got good with the ruling pen.

Back in the day when circuit boards were made by hand with tape and film, they had a nice flat black matte tape to make the board traces. I still have some 1/16" left that I use occasionally, but it is too wide for most stuff. It's adhesive is tacky (a lot of ripping and replacing was going on) so a little glue is still required. It has a nice look though. Anyway, I don't even know if its still made, but it was available in graphic arts stores.
